2025 characterised by little

wind so far

So far, 2025 has brought us less wind than we have seen in previous years. As a result, our electricity production is currently below the calculated target values.

By the end of August, our plants had produced around 425 million kWh of clean electricity.
Based on the planned result for the end of August, we are currently at 89.30%, which is 10.70% behind schedule.

Low wind conditions
But why was there less wind this year? Our colleagues and internal meteorology experts have looked into this:

  • Frequent currents from the north to north-west brought cool temperatures and rather low wind speeds in northern Austria.
  • In between, many high-pressure areas dominated the weather – warm, dry and with little wind. June, for example, was extremely hot and brought hardly any wind. GeoSphere Austria recorded the warmest June in Carinthia since measurements began, and it was the third warmest June ever in Austria.

Important grid expansion
But it is not only the lack of wind that is affecting our production figures. In addition, there were longer grid shutdowns by the grid operator this year. The reason for this is necessary conversion work on substations and lines. This work is part of the grid expansion – and even if it reduces our feed-in in the short term, it will create the basis for a stronger and more stable infrastructure in the long term. This benefits us as wind power producers as well as the energy transition as a whole.

We are therefore looking forward to the coming months with a lot of positive energy, so that we can continue to bring green electricity to the region and drive forward the energy transition.
