The Future of Energy at Home: Strong Interest at the Information Event in the Innviertel

Together with oekostrom AG, Windkraft Simonsfeld AG is planning to build two wind turbines in a forested area in the Upper Austrian municipality of Neukirchen an der Enknach. To involve the public at an early stage and inform them about renewable energy, five municipalities in the region hosted an informational afternoon on April 11.

Interest was high: Numerous female visitors took the opportunity to learn more during the presentations and to speak directly with experts during the subsequent exhibition. Six employees from Windkraft Simonsfeld were also on hand to answer questions.

The event centered on three expert presentations that examined the topic of the energy transition from different perspectives. DI Franz Angerer, Managing Director of the Energy Agency, highlighted the economic dimension: Austria spends billions daily on oil imports—money that is missing from its own economic cycle. The goal, therefore, is to significantly reduce this dependence by 2040 and to consistently drive forward the expansion of wind and solar energy.

Environmental aspects were also addressed: MSc. Michael Plank, an expert in ornithology and wildlife ecology, emphasized that the expansion of renewable energy must be carried out in harmony with nature conservation. Organizations such as BirdLife support the expansion but simultaneously call for the protection of sensitive habitats and appropriate mitigation measures.

Another key focus was on the topic of health. Prof. Dr. Gerhard Blasche explained that the noise generated by wind turbines is very low at greater distances and is perceived as disruptive by only a few people. Scientific studies also show no significant link between wind turbines and health risks.

The informational afternoon thus provided a solid foundation for discussion and underscored once again that the energy transition is most successful when carried out in collaboration with the region.
