More than 1,000 visitors accepted the invitation from Windkraft Simonsfeld and ImWind and celebrated the opening of the new wind farm in Wilfersdorf together with Karl Wilfing, President of the Lower Austrian Parliament, and Josef Tatzber, Mayor of Wilfersdorf. Five wind turbines produce around 73 million kWh of green electricity here every year, enough to meet the annual needs of over 19,000 households. The total investment totalled more than 50 million euros. The cooperation project between the two pioneering Lower Austrian renewable energy companies was commissioned at the end of 2024 and has now been officially opened with a large public celebration.
Plenty of tailwind: long-standing partnership with Wilfersdorf drives energy transition forward
"I am delighted that we can celebrate the opening of our wind farm today together with so many visitors - and thus also the continuation of our more than 20-year partnership with the market town of Wilfersdorf. Together, we have succeeded in consistently expanding our contribution to an independent, local and affordable energy supply over the years. In doing so, we are creating added value, jobs and a sustainable energy supply for the people in the region," says Markus Winter, CTO of Windkraft Simonsfeld.
Georg Waldner, CEO of ImWind: "Wind energy is and will remain a central pillar of the energy transition in Austria - it not only strengthens our energy independence, but also the business location through innovation, investment and future-proof jobs. Projects like the one here in Wilfersdorf impressively demonstrate what is possible when strong partnerships are created from shared visions. Today we can see the result: another major step towards a more sustainable energy future that we can look back on with pride."
Karl Wilfing, President of the Provincial Parliament, is also delighted: "The Weinviertel has always been a wind district - a third of the clean electricity in Lower Austria is already produced by wind power. And we will certainly need the wind turbines in the future too - for affordable energy, jobs and regional added value. Hardly any other district is as future-orientated as Mistelbach. I am therefore particularly pleased that this flagship project has been realised in my home district and that we can celebrate it together with the population today."
"The new wind farm in Wilfersdorf is already the 4th expansion here in the region. The realisation of this project with Windkraft Simonsfeld and ImWind was exemplary and took place in close coordination with the two companies, the municipality and the local population, a cooperation on an equal footing. That is why we were able to realise the project quickly. I am delighted that we can celebrate this together today," said Josef Tatzber, Mayor of Wilfersdorf.
The event offered an extensive supporting programme with crane rides, a tour of the plant, regional food and drink and much more. From 8 p.m., the band Weinviertel Mischung got the packed event tent shaking.
