Opinion poll confirms broad
acceptance of wind power
More than 80 percent of Austrians support the expansion of wind power. This is the result of a representative survey of 2,500 people between the ages of 16 and 75 conducted at the end of spring. The study was commissioned by IG Windkraft.
Around 70 percent of respondents already see wind power as a crucial component of Austria's future energy supply. Almost 70 percent also see it as a clean, sustainable form of energy from their own region that does not harm the environment and makes them energy-independent from major powers and dictators.
Josef Plank, President of IG Windkraft: ‘Wind energy is a very strong regional force, especially in Austria. It is supported by around 8,000 people in almost 200 medium-sized, often family-run companies in rural areas. We see the results of this opinion poll as a mandate to take greater responsibility for our region and to actively reach out to people outside the urban areas.’
64 percent of respondents agreed with the statement: ‘The use and expansion of wind energy is very important to me, even if the wind turbines are visible in the landscape. This is the only way we can fully switch to renewable energies.’ And more than half of those surveyed have no fundamental objections to the construction of wind turbines in their immediate vicinity.
