Salzburg AG relies on wind power from Windkraft Simonsfeld
Salzburg AG is further expanding its existing wind power portfolio. From 1 January 2027, the company will include the production of the Simonsfeld II wind farm in Ernstbrunn, Lower Austria, in its trading portfolio for one year. The three wind turbines, with a total capacity of 9.5 MW, generate around 27.5 million kWh of renewable electricity in an average year – enough to supply around 7,000 households.
“The cooperation with Windkraft Simonsfeld AG is another important step on our path towards the energy transition. With electricity from the Simonsfeld II wind farm, we are strengthening our wind power portfolio,” says Michael Baminger, CEO of Salzburg AG. Windkraft Simonsfeld is one of Austria’s largest wind power producers and operates a total of 94 wind turbines in Austria, generating more than 650 million kWh of electricity per year – enough to supply more than 163,000 households.
Over the coming years, Salzburg AG will invest around €1.3 billion in greater energy independence and the expansion of renewable energy. With its strategic ambition “Decarbonizer”, the company aims to double its own renewable energy generation to 2 terawatt-hours by 2040. In addition to further expanding hydropower, photovoltaics and biomass, Salzburg AG is also systematically developing its existing wind power portfolio. From 1 January 2027, the company will therefore market the electricity generated by the Simonsfeld II wind farm for one year.
Wind, solar and hydropower complement each other ideally
The electricity will be integrated into Salzburg AG’s generation portfolio. This portfolio combines different renewable generation technologies – including wind power, hydropower and photovoltaics – and enables the targeted marketing of the electricity produced.

Their generation profiles complement each other ideally throughout the year and, together with flexible generation and storage capacities, contribute to a secure and stable domestic electricity supply. The Simonsfeld II wind farm is located in the municipality of Ernstbrunn in Lower Austria and consists of three wind turbines. The turbines have a total capacity of 9.51 MW and generate an average of 27.5 GWh of wind power per year. This amount of electricity corresponds to the annual consumption of around 7,000 households and will in future be integrated into Salzburg AG’s energy portfolio.
