Support for WWF restoration project in the March-Thaya floodplains

The March-Thaya floodplains are among the most important river landscapes in Central Europe. WWF Austria has been working there for many years on the restoration and ecological enhancement of the area. With our contribution, we are supporting this important nature conservation project.

As part of a large-scale restoration project, numerous measures are being implemented to improve habitats within the Natura 2000 area. One key focus is to give the River March, which was heavily straightened in the past, more space for its natural development. This creates valuable habitats for a wide range of animal and plant species and sustainably strengthens biodiversity.

During a visit to the WWF office in Vienna, we had the opportunity to learn more about the current status of the project and exchange views with the team on the importance of near-natural river landscapes.

For us, climate protection and the preservation of valuable natural areas go hand in hand. A successful energy transition requires not only the expansion of renewable energy, but also the protection and strengthening of natural habitats.
