Two new hybrid power plants for a sustainable energy future

Another important step for the energy transition: our already approved photovoltaic projects Wilfersdorf and Ernstbrunn II have been awarded feed-in tariffs with a term of 20 years as part of a public tender.

This clears the way for the construction of both plants, with commissioning planned within the next year. Both photovoltaic plants will be implemented as hybrid power plants. This means they will make use of the existing grid infrastructure of our wind farms and complement it efficiently. In future, the Wilfersdorf plant will feed its electricity into the grid via the infrastructure of our Wilfersdorf wind farm, while Ernstbrunn II will use the existing grid infrastructure of the Simonsfeld II wind farm.

“The shared use of grid infrastructure offers key advantages: existing lines and grid connections can be used more efficiently, while construction-related interventions are kept to a minimum,” explains project manager Christian Harrach. At the same time, wind and solar energy complement each other perfectly: “Because wind and solar reach their highest yields at different times of the day and year, we can make particularly efficient use of the existing infrastructure.”

With a capacity of 10.26 MWp, the Wilfersdorf photovoltaic plant will generate around 12.7 million kilowatt-hours of renewable electricity per year. Ernstbrunn II will have a capacity of 2.64 MWp and produce around 2.8 million kilowatt-hours annually. Together, the two plants will supply clean electricity for around 3,300 households.

With these projects, we are consistently pursuing our strategy of developing existing wind power sites into high-performance hybrid power plants. In this way, we can use existing infrastructure even more efficiently, conserve resources and lay the foundation for a secure, regional and sustainable energy supply.
