Windkraft Simonsfeld Wins the 2026 State Prize for Wood Construction

The expansion of our corporate headquarters in Ernstbrunn was honored with the 2026 Austrian State Prize for Wood Construction—the highest national award for outstanding wood construction projects. From a total of 41 nominated projects from across Austria, an international jury of experts selected our building as one of only three State Prize winners.

The State Prize for Wood Construction honors buildings that uniquely combine architectural quality, resource efficiency, and climate protection. The award-winning projects demonstrate how wood as a building material can make an important contribution to a sustainable and forward-looking building culture.

For Windkraft Simonsfeld, this award is a special honor. Our headquarters was built with the goal of consistently implementing sustainability not only in energy production but also in our own infrastructure. The use of wood, a renewable resource, reflects the company’s values: responsibility toward the environment and society, long-term thinking, and actively shaping the energy transition

The awards ceremony took place on May 28, 2026, at the Sofiensäle in Vienna. This year, the State Prize for Wood Construction was awarded for the first time by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Climate and Environmental Protection, Regions, and Water Management in collaboration with proHolz Austria. The goal is to highlight the diverse potential of wood construction and bring innovative, climate-friendly construction projects into the spotlight. The prize is funded by the Austrian Forest Fund and will be awarded every four years going forward.
